Undestand Collage Image Formats to Download

Photo grid online supports three image formats for final collage download

  • PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
  • JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
  • WebP (Web Picture)

PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

A PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file is a raster file image file that uses lossless compression. PNG supports palette based images with or without transparency. This format designed for sharing images on internet and for print graphics. It is second best option for printing after TIFF format.

If you want to share image on internet with transparency this format is best suited for you. If your collage does not have any transparency it is better to use jpeg or WebP formats because PNG files are very big in file size.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

In JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) image format photo is saved using the method of lossy compression. The output image can be adjusted with the degree of compression and allows selectable trade-off between storage size & image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality. JPEG has been the most widely used image compression standard in the world.

If you want to share image on internet without transparency this is best suited format for you to use.

WebP (Web Picture)

WebP ( Web Picture) is an image file format developed by Google intended as a replacement for JPEG, PNG, and GIF file formats. It supports both lossy and lossless compression,as well as animation and alpha transparency.

For example an A3 high resolution collage created with Photo Grid Online is 1.5 MB in WebP format and 25 MB in PNG format. So using WebP format is better for downloading and sharing photo collage images.
